I'm happy to report that I paid off my credit card yesterday! I hadn't been "carrying" a balance, but I had been consistently making a large new one with each billing cycle. This was causing me to feel stressed and eager to get rid of it. It was about $650. This included the $200 wedding gift, so hopefully now that it's paid I can let it go. I'm now debt free again, except for our house.
My intent is to now start really trying to boost savings back up before DH is done working overtime. I am going to spend a bit of money this coming weekend, as I am going down to Oregon to visit friends and family. I didn't do much school clothes shopping for O, so I think I will hit up the outlet mall while I am there. I like to get her jeans at Oshkosh because they fit her good and we don't have a store in my area. I won't be taking DH with me though, so that will cut a lot of my food costs. I also won't need a hotel since I have people to stay with.
I did learn that I need to go ahead with having the struts professionally replaced on my car. DH was going to attempt it, but after talking to my dad, we learned it could be quite dangerous without specialized tools and we should just spend the money. I will budget for it probably sometime in the next month.
My brother-in-law was supposed to come do some work on the little rental house for me, but he has decided to quit working for himself and go work for someone else for awhile. With that, he won't be coming to do the work. The door he replaced earlier in the summer is leaking a bit somewhere, so we need to get that fixed. DH will look at it, but if he can't do it I will have to hire someone local. We've decided to wait on replacing the front gable. I am going to caulk and paint the house myself. I have been working on it a little bit here and there while E naps. I have to keep at it if I am going to finish before it's too cold. We were also planning on replacing the carpet and pad in the front room. I looked at samples this morning and will talk to DH about it tonight. I have no idea how much that will cost but I am looking at carpet that is $1.00-$1.25 per square foot. Maybe around $400 with the installation? Anyway, I was guessing I'd owe B-I-L at least a grand for his work, so while I now have plenty of my own work to get done, at least that's one less thing to have to worry about.
I had to turn on the heat last night. It's not really cold enough to have a fire in the stove, but it was 2 degrees cooler than I can live with. I have been battling a cold, so I think it's best to take care of myself.
Hope your fall is off to a nice start!
